SARAH FIELD

Education, outreach and performance have been at the heart of Sarah’s career from the very beginning. Her work with Live Music Now established a lasting commitment to inspiring musicians of all ages and backgrounds, alongside a professional career as a performer and educator.
 

Sarah brings extensive conservatoire teaching experience, having spent twelve years at the Royal College of Music, London, where she taught and designed the Professional Skills (Art of Teaching) programme for woodwind and brass students. She is currently a regular lecturer at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and has worked as a guest musician, performance-class director and examiner at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance, the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and the Royal Northern College of Music.
 

Her higher-education teaching experience also includes seven years at Canterbury Christ Church University, teaching instrumental students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as tutoring students at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. She currently teaches trumpet at the University of Surrey.
 

Sarah has developed an international profile as a guest tutor and clinician, with teaching engagements at the University of Illinois Chicago, universities in Mexico, Christchurch in New Zealand, the Royal Guard of Oman Music School and most recently in Sweden. She particularly enjoys working within different musical cultures and educational environments, bringing an adaptable and collaborative approach to each institution.

Alongside her conservatoire work, Sarah has extensive experience teaching and mentoring young musicians. She has been a regular tutor at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, teaching trumpet, classical saxophone and jazz, and has also taught at the Trinity College of Music Junior Department. Her work with young musicians continues at The City of London Boys’ School, where she has taught saxophone for twenty years in one of London’s leading academic school environments.
 

Sarah’s summer-school and course experience is equally diverse. She has taught yoga to musicians of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, tutored at Woldingham International Summer School, directed the Aberystwyth Saxophone Summer School, taught at the Brass Academy, and led courses at the Benslow Music Trust. Her teaching philosophy is rooted in developing the whole musician.
